Essex County Council funding for home energy efficiency improvements

We have been asked to circulate the below information by Essex County Council:

A grant of up to £10,000 from Essex County Council is available for energy efficiency improvements to help make your home more cosy this winter.

Making your home more energy efficient will help save you money on future energy bills.

If you answered yes to the above, you could be eligible for free local authority funding of up to £10,000 to install energy efficiency measures in your home.

Our trusted partner, Aran Insulation, will assess your eligibility, carry out a survey on your home and complete the installation.
This funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis and all work must be completed by 30 June 2021.
Check your eligibility and apply today or call Aran Insulation on 0800 587 7795 or 01284 812 520 to avoid missing out.

Essex Climate Action Commission

The Essex Climate Action Commission is looking to get the views of Essex residents
on a selection of the recommendations the Commission will make which will help
Essex become a net-zero county by 2050.

Since its inception in May 2020, the Commission has been developing
recommendations for ways in which Essex can tackle climate change.
Through the Commission’s consultation, launched on 16 March, it hopes to find out
how much public support there is for its recommendations, whether residents think
the focus is on the right areas, and if the recommendations have the right level of
ambition. Residents have until Tuesday 4th May to have their say.

Census field officers

Census field officers are now working in the community to remind everyone to complete their census and to signpost support.

Please share the following information with your community / client base so that residents are aware of the process and can avoid falling victim to anyone fraudulently claiming to be a census field officer.

All census officers:

  • carry official identification cards with their photograph and name
  • wear PPE, use hand sanitizer and socially distance
  • can show a critical worker letter permitting them to be out and about doing their job

Any resident can call 0800 085 8239 to confirm the identity of a census officer and the area they are working in.

Census officers NEVER ask for money, bank details or any other financial information. They will NEVER ask to enter a home.

They work the following hours:

Monday – Saturday 09h00-20h00

Sundays and Bank Holidays 10h00-16h00

If any doubt, always close the door.

If a resident feels threatened or in danger, then they should call 999.

With thanks and kind regards,

Walk-in and get tested for Covid-19

People living and working in Essex, without Covid-19 symptoms, are now being offered walk-in appointments for a rapid test at their local test centre. With 13 test centres now in full operation, capacity for testing has increased, meaning people now have another option available to them.

Residents and those working in Essex had previously been invited to book their test appointment in advance, online or by phone. The new option brings more flexibility, especially for those who are unable to work from home and want to get tested for peace of mind and reassurance.

Around a third of people with Covid-19 have no symptoms and could be spreading the virus unknowingly. Although case numbers are declining, there is still a worrying number of people with Covid-19 in Essex. Health officials in the county advise figures could go down even quicker if together we break the chain of transmission by getting tested regularly.

Councillor John Spence, Cabinet Member for Health & Adult Social Care says: “The number of cases in Essex is continuing to reduce, and that’s down to the great efforts of the people of Essex. This is also because of the upscaling of testing of those without symptoms. It’s important to get tested regularly to stop the spread, and now we are accepting walk-ins, it’s easier than ever.”

Rapid Covid-19 tests are available at 13 test centres across Essex, all easily accessible and Covid-secure:

Basildon – Towngate Theatre, and The Place Leisure Centre, Pitsea

Braintree – Witham Town Football Club

Brentwood – The Nightingale Centre

Castle Point – Waterside Farm Leisure Centre

Chelmsford – Central Baptist Church

Colchester – Colchester Leisure Centre

Epping Forest – Theydon Bois Village Hall

Harlow – Civic Centre, The Water Gardens

Maldon – West Maldon Community Centre

Rochford – The MegaCentre

Tendring – Long Meadows Community Centre

Uttlesford – Saffron Walden ECL

Walk-in or book an appointment online at

www.essex.gov.uk/getting-tested or by calling 0333 772 6144.

Anyone with symptoms should book a test via www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
